Hi Pup,
I rarely post on this site as I am just not in the same league as you guys, but I am a regular follower and have always appreciated your posts. As a cancer survivor myself, I have something of an idea of what you are going through at present. I can understand your reason for selling some of your trees but would advise against selling out completely. I am sure that there are plenty of people who would be honoured to help with looking after your trees while you recover. It would be sad to find that after recovery you have no more trees to care for. I will be praying for you.

G'day Derek

Sad news indeed. I am sorry to hear about your ailing health. The Collection here is so much better for your contribution to bonsai in Australia. The first 2 trees donated by you and Sue are a focal point and very large attraction here at the NBPCA. Trust me when I say that your trees are in very good hands with my team here. My new structure now ensures that every single tree within the Collection is always in the hands of the very best person for the species, and job, at hand.

I know you are a fighter, stay strong, and my best wishes to Sue.

Regards
Leigh.

Hi Derek,

I am sorry to hear of this news, as you have said to have come to this decision wouldn't have come lightly at all.

You have given so much so far, to the Australian Bonsai Community as a whole, perhaps its now its time the Australian Bonsai Community give back to one of our biggest contributors and pioneers, a doyen of Australian Natives. Its time we give back to you with support and love and positive thoughts.

Would there be an opportunity for one of the clubs you are associated with, have a weekly or fortnightly get together where they could help do what is required under your watchful eye ? (Illawarra Bonsai Society use to meet on a Sunday at Noel Summerell's place and if he needed any help, we would help out but that has since sadly stopped)

Something that you taught me, from reading your posts over time, what we seek is right in front of us, its just a shame that many of us don't take the time to research and find the answers ourselves. Very much like Bonsai and life itself and for that, I owe you mate.

Stay strong and positive Pup, you ain't a stubborn bugger for nothing ;) The whole of the Australian Bonsai Community is behind you.

Cheers

David

Unfortunately, we all get old and infirm one day, and that is the similar situation as Blacknight whose sale I arranged for last weekend. Unfortunately he could not attend in person, but I spoke to him yesterday which was nice.
The rest of his trees are on consignment at Ray Nescis, (along with still a few of the Koreshoffs trees), so if anyone wants to see / purchase them then head along and check em out
We can only hope that we have the time, energy and friends to ensure our trees are moved on to places where they can be managed and appreciated for the future.

Sorry to hear the news Pup,
I hope your trees find a good home and even nicer if some stay close where you can still appreciate them.

Ken

To those of you that are concerned about my problems. It has been a long thought out process. I am downsizing mainly, and trees are to be sold only for what they are worth, not what the buyer thinks they can get them for because of my Ill fortune.

Cheers Pup
Ps thank you Ken.

Sorry to hear the sad news re your health Pup. Cancer can and does get beaten so stay strong and beat it! I have learned a lot from your posts and love your forthright comments. You are one of my "go to guys" when I'm searching for info so I can honestly say that you have taught me a lot even if indirectly.

Pup,

I don't know you but as just a volunteer at the NBPCA let me wish you the best and please reconsider selling all your trees - I'm sure many will help you with the maintenance but its worth it just to just sit and look at your trees
