Hello!
I've been growing this ficus for the past year or so after taking a cutting from a friend's plant. My friend isn't really a bonsai person and wasn't sure about the species. I'm thinking it might be a benji but I'm not 100%.
I was also wondering about what might be causing some of the leaves to go yellow and curl (see last picture) especially on the lower branches. It's also grown a lot less than it did last year. It's been a cooler year than usual and I thought that might have something to do with it. I was giving it full sun for a while but if it's a benji, maybe that's not the best thing for it?
Cheers,
Harley

Re: Another Ficus ID
Looks like Ficus microcarpa var. hillii. A very common ornamental fig.
Yellowing leaves may indicate a need for fertiliser.

Re: Another Ficus ID
Hello all,
Thought I might give a little update on this tree.
It has been growing well over the last two years and I'm starting to develop the branch structure and ramification.
Working on this tree has made me realise that ficus are a really great choice for beginners like myself. They grow quickly and are more forgiving than other species. Branches remain flexible for quite a while and it's easy to develop ramification.
I've learnt a lot from this tree.

Re: Another Ficus ID
I should say as well that it has been much healthier due to the regular and liberal application of fertiliser so thanks to Dansai for that piece of advice
