Hi! Can I ask for some opinions please? Last entry - should I enter this mystery tree which I think is a leptospermum? It’s still got some green leaves after a pretty massive root chop but isn’t actively growing. Would it have turned brown by now if it were dying? I chopped the roots 3 weeks ago.
Or should I enter the port Jackson pine, which appears to be actively growing... maybe a more worthwhile pursuit?

I vote the pine. But my motives are somewhat selfish. I think it puts more diversity and interest in the comp. There are plenty of Lepto already entered

If you get good sun, I’d go the callitris. Lovely species.

KC&R being all cryptic - I’ll try to de-code...

It’s a fine time for a pine

I think it rhymes ... Beano you might say:

‘Let me have a fine wine while I consider my port jackson pine ... maybe it’s a sign that the comp is mine, yes, I’ll lay it on the line.’

Not sure if it's been asked allready but what would be the rules concerning tanuki or use of deadwood.. One of my twisted junipers have died recently and I feel the trunk could be used to add to my lepto trio.. trunks about 2cm though and obviously not a native..

Yeah thanks for the link. I think Rory's answer says it all.. I will hold onto my piece of deadwood anyway...

On another note I just took a 20 dollar gamble on this kunzea as a late entry.
Pulled back some soil when I got home and I'm out of the running by about 2mm.. will decide by tonight whether I should chop a trunk off and enter it it or if I should keep it as it is.ImageImage

Hey Mbunro,

Personal reflection only of course....on the rare occasions that I do see twin-trunk form of native bonsai - I love ‘em. I reckon your stock here is a lovely start for that - informal upright style; twin trunk form.

You could get some good, harmonious movement in both trunks early in their development.
Of course - same goes for one trunk too of course.

As an aside, even though I have not entered my Kunzea cascading forest ... (yeah, I know - another bloody group from yours truly!) I do hope to keep the forum updated outside of the comp. Same goes for this - whatever you do I hope you can update us on progress - in or out of the Comp. Cool stock I reckon.
