nice tree youve convinced me to do something similar with an elm i have as i havent really known what to do with it. thanks for the inspiration. how much abuse can an elm take when it comes to carving as ive only really tried hollowing a fig ot 2 with limited success. any help much appreciated.

well as far as i can tell, you could pretty much take all but a couple of millimeters of the heartwood out of an elm, and it'll still grow!! Thats how deep some of my carving goes. Ofcourse i dont recommend you go that far if your not too confident as its very easy to start making holes by accident.

. My advice is to start by taking a little out then next time take some more,,,until you finally end up with what you want.

The structure of this tree is coming on very nicely indeed. May I ask why you have kept the left side longer than the right?

Looking good, the tree has filled in nicely. I was wondering the same thing as Tony, why the ling left side? Love the pot but I think it is a little heavy for the tree.

Maybe something a little shallower next repot?
