Pine for workshop

Thats about all I will get done today. Still lots to do.

I won't pot it for at least 12 months to let it settle and recover form the operation.

I really like whee you are heading with this tree, a huge change for the better, the lack of movement in the trunk originally was letting the tree down and you have corrected it to a tee maybe a more stonewere pot in the future ( if you can find one ) and i would buy this tree anyday of the week again very nice and it shows your skills and vision off well.

Still a lot of work to do on the lower branches and a bit of tweaking up higher to do yet.

I will keep an eye out for a pot for the next year or so.

Hi Grant, I really like the transformation you did to this Jack pine!
I was just wondering how it is now going after the restyle, and if you repotted it yet etc...did you find a new pot for it?

Hi Dario,

i missed your post.

I did repot the tree last October and it is doing OK. It grew very vigorously and I did not want to retard its vigour for the first year so it has got very large needles compared to its usual size and it shed most of its old needles in the process(very strange). This year i will try and get it to ramify and reduce its needle size.

I am currently unable to take pics of my bonsai so it will be about a week before I can post.

Thanks very much for updating this post Grant!
I really like the design of this pine and it is also a species that I know very, very little about.
Interesting to hear that it shed all of its old needles Grant...could that have anything to do with it recovering from the restyle?
I was also wondering if you have previously had the opportunity to work with this species?
I hope that you are able to acheive your goals with it this growing season and I look forward to seeing the latest pics of it!

The needle drop probably was the tree sacrificing the old growth for the new growth. (Figs do this and some other trees drop leaves after fertilizing to put out new growth)

This tree is my first Jack pine that I own,

Hi,

Just popped out and had a look at it and it looks fine. This years needles are nice and short.

I will just trim some of last years old long needles off it and check to see if it needs any minor wiring before I photograph it.

Got a bit of work done on this a few weeks ago but didn't get it finished.

Today I chopped of a bit of apex, shortened the lower branch, chopped of a left side branch near the apex and wired up a new apex.

Still needs a lot of work but I will leave it there for the moment.

It will take another years growth to fill it out again a bit.
