Hi Everyone,
This is my first post and am new to bonsai. I have a trident maple that is about 8 years old, and have recently potted a Chinese elm and a Japanese Maple that are much younger.
My apologies in advance if this question has been asked previously but I only have this opportunity tomorrow so I need the information URGENTLY!
I have access to a Manchurian Pear (green leaves white blossoms) that is in a pot, probably about two metres tall and it has a base stem of maybe 5-6cm diameter that starts to taper after about 25cm to half that.. It looks if it may have been chopped a few years ago.
It is in a pot and I am wondering if I cut at the beginning of the taper and I could use it as a bonsai? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!
Cheers morgs

I can't see why you couldn't turn it into bonsai. I sometimes look at the young street trees and wonder if I could come by in the middle of the night and grab one (not really... well). They can have great bases.
All difficult things have their origin in that which is easy, and great things in that which is small.

Greetings,
Bill Valavanis, our invited guest demonstrator will be offered a Manchurian Pear to work on.
If you are coming to the demo on October 8th, the venue has been changed.
The meeting will be in hall at the Mt Gravatt showgound where the Queensland Bonsai Society meet.
Keep looking for details, here and on the Bimer and Society sites.
Happy bonsai,
Bruce.
