mixed species group planting

I saw a pic of a nice native mixed species group planting here recently but cant seem to find the thread. Are there any rules i need to know? Number of species, placement or anything else of importance? Would love to do a euc group under planted with acacia, casuarina and melaleuca. I would think tho that to use all of those in the 1 planting may be a bit "distracting. Any advice?
