what's the diff between seedling and sapling?

Discussions about propagating from cuttings, seeds, air layers etc. Going on a dig (Yamadori) or thinking of importing? Discuss how, when and where here.

From the internet:
A seedling is what sprouts from the seed.
It is the youngest form of a tree. A sapling is a very young, slender tree.

I thought always a seedling was from a seed,
and the sapling was from the root. :lost: :lost: :lost:

A sucker is a tree that grows from the roots.

I think a seeding only has upto a couple of pairs of leaves and a sapling maybe up to 10.

seedling generally refers to what first appears from the seed up to a development stage were it forms branches and in some cases, mature leaves, then becomes known as a sapling. To make it more confusing some people use the term treeling. Basically sapling (child) is the stage in a trees life between seedling ( baby) and young tree (teens).
