Building Wooden "pots" for grow boxes

Hi guys, I found this video which I thought was a great albeit expensive way to have uniform grow boxes instead of having untidy looking foam boxes. I'm not sure of the cost involved, but I know stain/vanish is not cheap!! Can anyone tell me why the video maker suggests to use sphagnum instead of the usual growing medium?

G,day Luke, Greth who is a member here and lives in the Adelaide hills was selling them here. A couple of years back.
IN THE LIGHT OF KNOWLEDGE ATTAINED, ACHIEVEMENT IS WITHIN SIGHT
