Is spring an OK time to dig out old maples?

Post by shanemartin »

Got the opportunity to get my hands on some decent trident maple prebonsai, but I have to move on them now, as the property they're on has sold.
It's in Northern NSW and they have already started shooting..... I know winter would have been the optimum time before budding, but had enough to deal with of my own. There are a couple of very nice specimens here which seem too good to waste so what's the best aftercare in this situation?

You can defoliate when you lift them if you need to.
Well drained soil, out of direct Sun and wind, Keep moist. Seasol bath and watering for the next few months. Cut paste on all wounds to stop infection is good too.

Thanks Ken.... Will do as you suggest. Did you mean cut paste on the roots as well ??? or just any branches that are pruned back.

From what I have read you should never put cut paste on roots that have been cut.

Good luck btw

No worries Ken... I thought as much, and have never done that to cut roots either. Just checking I understood you as all.
Thanks
