Propagating strangler ficus

Hello,

Found some crazy strangler figs, thought i might try something with them, question is do they take from heel cuttings???

Most ficus root very easy, maybe all so I would say yes of the hip.
But it may help if you show a better picture of the leaves.
Could this be sandpaper fig?
I would not know but get the feeling they may not be the best subject for bonsai.

deff not sand paper fig, they rarely grow as epiphytes. Have seen 1 or 2 sandpaper fig bonsai but deff not used as much as some of the other species

Hmm I am sure I have seen this growth habit on sandpaper figs at one or two botanical gardens I have visited

I can take pics of the leaves as i took 2 cuttings, but will be tomorrow at some point.

Bretts, I'm hoping to have the strangler attach itself to a big ass piece of driftwood. Not for bonsai purposes, its just you guys are a wealth of botanical info.

There are 3 species commonly referred to as sandpaper fig. I don't think any of them are frequently found as epiphytes. The most common sandpaper fig I have seen used as bonsai is Ficus coronata. It seldom grows adventitious roots but has a lovely dark brown bark and often fruits even as a bonsai. This definitely isn't F. coronata. The figs in this picture could be any of a number. Will wait until pics of leaves but I suspect Ficus virens.

there are at least 5 species refered to as sandpaper figs. F. coronata, F. coronulata, F. fraseri, F. oposita and F. scobina.

Something to think about although i wanted to propagate them for the sake of strangling some driftwood or stone.

These 'trunks' are infact a vine.. Snake vine but at the moment can't remember the scientific name for them. They will not root from such thick & seriously OLD wood... Not sure if they would shoot back on old wood, if they did you could possibly look to collecting one but it is not something I have attempted, one native I admire in its natural surrounds.

Oh well fig or not, i hope the heel cuttings take. The bits i pinched are green so we'll have to see if it roots.
