trident maple progression

i recently acquired this trident which is approx 18 y/o, it has had three trunk chops 5 years apart, however it has been neglected for the last few years, height is 45cm and trunk width is 18cm. i will update as work is done. steve

Very nice. Looks like it has some potential after a bit of love.

That is a good deal Nishiki but it is going to need a bit of work unless you are heading for a formal upright.

i think it would be at least 5 years for the cuts to heal, and by then the branch structure should be on its way.

are the first 2 chops about 8 and 13 years old?--if so something needs to be done to help heal them over--there must be a technique to deal with such old large scars------perhaps carved out and wrapped to compress those areas--then placed in a large grow pot for 3 yrs or so and allowed to be a little rampant----

Slowly, slowly indeed. The hobby of Bonsai is something that each preceding generation might be lucky enough to fully appreciate in 'their' own lifetime.
