Hi xtolord , mate that's something unique for sure . I purchased a mini Rosemary for a bonsai trainer unfortunately i planted it with my wifes herbs ,, now its part of her kitchen garden .Wouldn't want to leaves these around for the cook to get her hands on .Well done .

I have been pot groowing one for about a year now with the intention of bonsai.
I potted it into a shallowish bonsai trainer pot for the first time this spring with an 80% diatomite mix, and its survived and growing again now.
I am going to do some pruning tomorrow and maybe wiring, ill try and get some before and after shots.

I got several cuttings in earth for cooking use =)

The rosemary in the white pot was about 3~4 cms at that time.

Hi ken,
Sorry to hear that.
Making yamadori rosemary bonsai is rather tough to my experience.
I've tried thrice, and all three died.
The roots dont seem to grow back... even with root growth hormone.
It does not seem to bud back either on the trunk and other parts of bark.

Those three rosemary bonsai were obtained from cuttings, all three from the same branch.
The difference in growth is due, I think, to the containers where I placed the cuttings AFTER they gave roots.
The small one [ in the white then blue pot ] was very slow to give off roots.

For root pruning I'm very careful, it give off lots of roots, but they also die back quickly or dry off.
I've got a flickr account with shoots at different stages and some showing roots when I unpotted.

The Rosemary No.3 im trying to make aerial roots, that's why I kept it in its small pot, but placed the pot in a bigger container and fill it with soil medium.
I made this in May, i'm waiting for december to remove it. [ Its tough to wait lol - every time I look at it, I want to undig it ]

That's about it...

I repot every 6 months [ more or less ]
I have to point out that I'm in mauritius, and dont have a 4 season but two season.

There's someone who told me that Rosemary live only for 3 years, not sure if its true or not...
This batch is roughtly 2 years old [ 1 year cutting/root growing and 1 year potensai/bonsai ]

I did not meant would last 3 years naturally, but would last 3 years when made into a bonsai
