and i forgot to add
the stump its self is 200mm to soil level, thats just mulch i removed from around it, i haven't dug down to have a closer look a the nebari, it also had some fine roots coming out from the sides of the trunk where the mulch was laid around it, which i thought was interesting
and the diameter is 80mm
any advise would be fantastic

Hi Matt, you sure could use it for Bonsai, looks to be several trees in the one area, digging them up may be rather tricky , this is the stump Pup is working on now, it's coming along great - viewtopic.php?f=56&t=5760&start=30&hilit=casuarina .
thanks for the link craig much appreciated, thats a very impressive stump!!!!
there are quite a few stumps in the one area at least 6 or 7 but i guess that just sounds like a challenge

well after taking a closer look around the stump i have realised that i may have beeen a little too ambitious to remove the stump, maybe just a new plan of attack is needed haha
but i did find this little guy growing in the grass, it has definitely been mowed quite a few times, but what i was wondering after i potted it and removed some of the foliage and picking the leader, i have no idea where to go from here, obviously let it establish its self and start growing again, but should i just let it grow wild and straight up?, or keep trimming at the hight i want an let the new leader thicken? and finally should i chop the little shoot off to the lower right hand side, but when i did see the little one there it did remind me of a "mother daughter" style tree i read about. any thoughts suggestions would be very much appreciated.

I've been pretty much impressed with the amount of casuarina present on this forum.
There's not much yamadori filaos out there, and there are some strick rules on taking wild life plants here =(
Filaos are usually found on the beach and its used to prevent sand erosion...

thats such a shame, they are such a beautiful tree, we have so very many growing throughout the cemetery i work in, many have been popping up every where!! the maintenance crew have a hard time with them, i'm so very impressed with the resilience of these trees they get chopped, mowed, sprayed, broken, and smashed!! and they just keep shooting

Nice work Matty
dunno about the littlun hanging on the side, but leave it there anyway as it will spread the Nebari for you. You can decide later what you want to do with it.
As for Style? way too early but let it grow and keep on hacking it back every year or so is it grows or decide to keep it real small and Mame / Shohin sized
