Hi Sid , mate leave it until winter then severe it and sit it in the rack .Remember its already potted .Pre train it in about 3 months so its ready for a trainer when severed .No need to check it if you have done the method as described by Bodhidharma or myself . If you notice roots growing out the bottom by all mean remove it if you want to . Pines are best left 3-6 months , they will layer in 3 months on young stock but never be too eager to remove or you will damage the new roots old pines and juniper can take up to 4 years , will the plastic last :?: , will the spagnum last :?: , hence the pot method .

You dont need to look or disturb the roots as its potted already and you can top up the mixture if the spagnum decomposes.My Juniper /cypress has a plastic pot and now close to 4 years later the pot is decaying , its held together with duct tape . I will remove it this coming winter for a nice twin trunk
