Any tool, looked after and kept sharp will maintain a Bonsai tree. Cheap Chinese tools will do the job, and when you have a collection that you see as priceless, Then maybe a $600 set of Japanese Bonsai tools is justified?

yes i usually get my gear from Leigh, but he does not usually have stock of tools, he is more special order, i need a supplier who keep tools in stock.

Siddar i prefer to buy quality, and in my experience Chinese tools most definitely do not stack up to Japanese tools, in build quality, material, operation and the time they hold their edge.

For instance i can wrap up my Japanese tools after cleaning them, and unwrap them a week later to use and they are still clean, my Chinese tool kept in the same roll, would have rust on it, cleaned exactly the same way, stored in the same tool wrap.

And Gareth, I agree, its just that with a tooth-pick, a fork and some string, a bonsai can be created and resemble something to admire. :shifty:

Hi try this link:
http://www.bonsainet.com.au/xpe/shop?catalog=japanese tool&start=1

I have never bought online, but I have bought at the nursery and they do sell Japanese tools.
I am sure that they will send promptly.

Ring up Brian at Imperial Bonsai, Sydney, he'll take a credit card over the phone and post the tool. Bought several Kaneshin tools of him this way.
