Another aquisition "Who Am I"

Post by alpineart »

Can't help myself , Bad Habits . I spotted this tree about 6-8 weeks ago , now the Wifes gone to Melbourne so i decided to Jump in my car , i'm gunna take you home . Either i'm showing my age or i'm off my tree  . A few clues ,

1/ Its a 2 Needle pine
2/ Its 8 years old from seed
3/ It is a variant of a well know pine
4/ It grow around 200-250mm per year
5/ It can have multi trunks
6/ It produces cones from the age of 5 or 6
7/ It has 13 cones as of now .
8/ The bark is smooth at 8 years old "pot grown"
9/ The new cones are darkest purple to black
10/ The needles are straight and flat , no twist or spiral .
11/ Needle length at 2 yo is 50mm at 4 yo 80mm
12/ This years candles have extended up to 180mm already and growing

If you think you know post your thought or have a guess.

My plan for this is to do what you would do to a thief if you caught him pinching you Bonsai .All the best.

Hi Pup , i have taken its pants off yet might be a female ;) , i was thinking of ringing it neck , drilling a few holes in it , choking the bugger with wire , and probably tear the hide off the side of it then whipping it into shape and wrapping it around a block of wood , you know , the gentle treatment . God help the next thief that turns up here looking for a freebie .

Hi Pup , just for the record the thief that was caught quite a few years ago had stolen 40 odd bonsai from Wodonga and surrounding area's was a 45 yo Female , and had mutilated every one of them , no discrimination now .

I must have been a real Mug to waste my time and effort posting this topic up . I thought with Christmas coming up there would be plenty of Ho , Ho , Ho , i think i know :?: from some of the members here . Best get out in the rain and hide it before the Bride comes home from Melbourne and claps here little peepers on it . I cant say i found it on the side of the road , or it fell off the back of a truck , then again for $35 it was a bargain , and there's more to be had for this old lad .

I personally got an invite back to have a look at his personal collection of pines and Junipers on Tuesday . He's not into Bonsai but he obviously has a nice collection of potted tree's Pines and Junipers .Just for the record it was seed grown In Yackandanda :lost: Hope i get a better response from the next topic , its hard to get good help . Alls good another lesson learned .Not all Bonsai thieves are Males .

Cheers Alpine

Hi Fella's , i would have to be a MUG, HO HO HO. Thats it Pinus Mugo var Mughus , The original Mugho Swiss Mountain Pine also known as the Mountain Pine , growth habit is leggy , multi trunked , grows to about 2m high and 3 m wide in the alps however there is a specimen know to be around 5 m in height in America , obviuosly on steriods . Many mis representations of it on the internet but most mugo's are Dwarf versions of this tree . I have hunted for one of these for 2 decades, and i'm guaranteed another Specimen on Tuesaday.

This was seed grown by a rare exotic Nursery in Yackadanda which closed down a few years ago . Mughus and Mugho are difficult to find on a google search as the computer automatically searches for Mugo. Now Mughus and Mugho are called Mugo even by European Guru's that do Bonsai using Yamadori Swiss Mountain Pines , there not huge monsters they are just old original leggy versions of the now dwarfs that are available . I thought someone would have guessed it . Sorry guys next time i will just post the name , i have plenty of sleepless nights too , to busy 24/7 sometimes . I let the cook down gently and told her this was half of my xmas present the other half i will get on Tuesday .

Cheers Alpineart
