Re: Price Check plz
Hi,
Its always hard to price trees based upon a photo as they always look much more impressive 'in the bark'.
As for age it doesn't matter as even a tree which is 100+ years old but with no development won't be worth a lot. The price of a tree is always subjective as they are only worth what someone will pay. $2k seems a lot of money for a tree at the stage of development that this tree presents in this photo. Not knowing the species (although i'm presuming a black pine) I know i've seen more developed trees for half of that. Does that mean that the tree isn't worth the money? Maybe, maybe not it all depends on what the tree says to you and what you believe you can develop it into.
I believe that we undervalue our trees quite drastically here in Oz due to the fact that there is only a minority of us who pursue this wonderfull hobby. Most baulk at the notion of paying big dollars for trees and prefer to develop their own. But its always nice to have a more 'finished' bonsai in the collection.
Personally I would hold off and look around as I don't have that sort of money to spend on a tree, but in saying that I have spent big dollars on trees in the past. Remember though that you need to look after your investment (thats what it is) and have the knowledge to look after this type of tree. If you do and love it, buy it.
There are only a limited number of people willing to pay big dollars for trees so don't feel pressured to buy it just because it 'might go'. There'll be another even if it does. just my
Good luck with your decision
Andrew

Re: Price Check plz
If your keen on the tree & its a private seller, I suggest you take a trip to the nearest bonsai nursery and do a comparison for yourself. Its been a long time since I wandered one to know of current prices but 2k should buy you a damn fine tree. For the money I don't think this tree cuts it...

Re: Price Check plz
Hi mate,
As the others have stared, $2k is well overpriced for this tree. That sort of cash would buy you a lot of fantastic advanced stock. Based on the development of our trees on you initial post, I'm guessing your still a bit of a newbie (please don't tke offense!!). If I was in a position to spend that much on a tree I'd want to be confident that I had the basic horticultural knowledge to keep it alive, and basic understanding on the care requirement for the species. Just like everyone else on the forum, you've probably been bitten hard by the bug, but just suggesting some patience and recommend seeking some advice and doing your research before pulling the trigger on such an expensive purchase.

Re: Price Check plz
I Guess that if one paid $2048 for a pine that size it should be ready to exhibit - I think this has 2-3 years to go or maybe more .. don't know what others might think.
Tell him he's dreamin ... but I would like it at $400-$500 but maybe I'm dreaming.

Re: Price Check plz
I usually dont get involved in these threads but i see both positives and negatives in the tree. movement not too bad and branches are in pretty good positions . i think the foliage has escaped and needs 3-4 years to bring it back in and ramify the tree, taper isent great ,but not alot of pines grown to be sold on like that that do as taper requires both time and skill involved with the grower. roots need work. Ive regually paid a couple of grand for some trees that some people may not think were worth it , others maybe. I must of otherwise i wouldnt paid for it and ive seen some pines go for 5+ where i shop. If you want to pay 2k for it and REALLY like it go for it otherwise i suggust shop around, depending where you are private sellers can be great or if your near melb, try the nurseries or the YVBS. If your around sydney i know some growers who may help if you have 2k to spare.
