Now..heres a long term project.
I started setting this up two years ago by wiring this once straight JBP into a position where it will sweep across a cliff front. The plan, next repotting season, will be to fix the tree onto the left hand lower ledge and make the trunk sweep across the front of the rock. Hopefully it will simulate a tree hanging off the side of a mountain. I was inspired by my visit to japan where i saw this in Nature. Keep you posted

Nice beginnings,
Do you plan to completely bury the roots after the are secured to the rock?

Q: Why are we all here?

Hi to you Gerard, yes i most certainly will. I will treat it as i learnt from my C.Elm. Bury it for a few years, bring it up arrange roots, then bury again, repeat until the goal is reached. Hope i live long enough.Gerard wrote:Do you plan to completely bury the roots after the are secured to the rock?

Hi bodhidharma,
I like the tree and I like the rock. I am looking forward to the final composition.
In your experience, which one is harder to come by tree or rock?
I think it is the rock. I have never come across a rock like that in any nursery.
Best regards.

Can do large moss rocks for anyone prepared to come and get them (private use for friends, we aren't opening up as a quarry). I've built 50m of retaining walls with them, strangely my doc keeps looking at the Xrays and saying 'no more rocks'. So all the really accessible ones have gone already, BYO mountain goat or donkey.

Re: Now..heres a long term project.
Interesting question Daiviet, I have never had a problem sourcing either. I stumbled upon the rock while walking around my property, so for me, the tree was more effort. I think the problem i will have will be finding the right pot to pull it all togetherdaiviet_nguyen wrote: which one is harder to come by tree or rock?

Hope you are inundated with rock hunters. Good way to clear a property .Greth wrote:Can do large moss rocks for anyone prepared to come and get them

Re: Now..heres a long term project.
Good morning bodhidharma,
You are luck then
I did find two short rocks around the backyard left by the previous owner too, which I have planted trident maples on.
Now I am wondering about possibilities of finding gold nuggets instead of rocks
