3yrs with a san jose

Hey all, haven't posted in ages so thought i better drop in again.

It has been raining for the last week so i have had some time to work on this san jose i have been preparing for the last 3 yrs.
The tree was originally purchased from a now closed down bonsai nursery here in northern NSW for $60 the tree had been grown wild and the stock had been neglected letting the foliage grow an unusable distance from the trunk.

the last few years have been focused on chasing back the foliage and getting the tree into good soil and healthy for the initial styling.

jarryd that is a nice looking juniper . love what you have done with it . looks very healthy. how is it going in the diatomite ?

hey paul, I have been growing pretty much all of my bonsai in 100% diatomite for the few years and all are very happy. however i haven't been able to purchase diatomite for a while now. so i need to find a new source for next spring.

Id love to hear everyones thoughts on a suitable pot. this one is close but a bit big and not quite right.

Hey Jarryd,

That's a lovely little tree mate. Great job nd fantastic development in the time!

The only thing I'd consider is to curve the shari a little bit around the front of the trunk to make the upright section above the first branch seem a little less straight. When I say a little, I mean a mm or two at the most.

thats a great looking tree, and I love what you have done with it in the time frame.

I am a huge fan of a strong low branch,I have a similar tree, but hope you dont mind I couldnt help myself with this one, had to see what it would look like

without it.

Maybe no need to change the pot this way ? !!

Quite a change! Not necessarily bad, but he's gonna have to grow a pair to get the trimmers out like that! Blimey!

hey paul,

thats certainly another option

and thats the beauty of virtual's we can have a look at it removing those branches without even lifting the cutters.

Although the large heavy branch which was originally being grown as a sacrifice branch I believe, was one of the main reasons i originally purchased the stock with the intention of creating a han kengi.

it is an interesting option to explore, but i think i am partial to the branches in question.

i find this tree quite interesting to look at and well balanced.

hahaha don't worry blokes, I just spent a few hours wiring these branches. I am now rather fond of them, these trees have very sharp juvenile foliage and my fingers were practically bleeding after this work. today i may spend some time on pot ideas.

Hi Jarryd , a very nice bonsai in such a short time . I don't have a San Jose Juni , then again i would probably kill it along with many others . I find matching the tree to the pot the hardest of all tasks . This one really appeals to me , well done .
