Pittosporum

Post by MattA »

I recently dug this large Pittosporum hybrid from a garden along with a mature citrus & a 15ft majestic palm for a friends courtyard. I still dont know how I got it over his fence & into the waiting hole without taking out some of his bonsai or him

I have never worked with one before so didnt know if it would survive or not. It sat soaking in my pond for several days then allowed to dry slightly overnight. I reduced the top by half & barerooted it & reduced the heavy roots as much as possible without too much loss of the fantastic amount of fine root it had. Thats was 3wks ago, it is now starting to pop a good amount of buds all over the live areas.

I see lots of carving in this trees future, for now bring on the growth.

Project.... what to make of that stump... too good a carving opportunity to waste....
Maybe a phoenix, just not sure if the wood is persistent or will rot out....

PS; I was soo looking forward to showing it off to a local nurseryman mate who said it wouldnt live, might have to find a young one of these to start over, the contrast between leaf & bark was really nice. If I can make a good job of the phoenix I might still be able to fool him :fc:
