Uhhh, i wanted to know if you use protection on your hands when you move your plants, or if you have a method of killing the spiders but not killing the trees?

we have wolf spiders, water spiders, trapdoor spiders, mouse spiders, funnelweb spiders, tarantula's and jumping spiders, thats just whats inside lol

nah Atrax robustus doesnt fair well in my climate

luckily we don't get funnelwebs here in sa--whitetails and redbacks are whacked straightaway--the rest are ok

Really? what are they, and are they as notorious as the Sydney funnelweb? Are they in Adelaide or are they predominatly close to the NSW/Vic borders?

Not as notorious as the sydney funnelweb due to most people not knowing the exist.

The SA species are Hadronyche flindersi from the Flinders ranges, Hadronyche eyrei from the Eyre peninsula and Hadronyche adelaidensis from the Mt Lofty ranges and Adelaide

I moved house recently, and found a lot of "funnel" type holes in my yard. I was curious so I sprayed water down one til it overflowed, and a moment or two later a spider came out!! It didn't look like a funnelweb to me, as it was more brown-grey in colour. Do you know of any other "funneling" spiders that would be local to the Adelaide Hills?

Sorry Cooc, I should not have posted that pic on your thread.
I guess I should have put text with it at least. The point I want to make is, there are always going to be critters on your trees as it is an outdoor pursuit, the trick is to get used to them being around and get farmiliar with the different varieties so you know when to worry and when not to. If you keep them free of dead leaves and expired flowers you should be ok. I have a problem with Black House Spider, it likes to gather dead material and make a nest but they are easy to spot and clean out (although I did get bitten on the neck by one last week). I have a live and let live policy as spiders do a fair bit of pest control for me.

Not sure if it's a myth or not but I have heard lemon spray is supposed to be a deterant for spiders. I'm not sure of the dilution required but I couldn't imagine it would be too bad for your trees. Might be worth looking into. By the way I have a sh load of spiders in my back yard I have more trouble avoiding walking through the webs. I leave them alone though as I figure they are there for a reason.
