does anybody know of a current supplier (preferably in vic) who has plastic bonsai turntables in stock? (the round, brown, plastic... type)

Sorry Paddles, I guess the real question is how many do you want and how much each do you want to spend. I have about 20 that are way better than the cheesy plastic ones, they can hold up to 40kg and stand up to a lot of day to day use.

Mine cost me $2 from a $2 shop qand have had it now for about 7 years
Still good as new and works great

You can get a Lazy Susan bearing for less than $30.00, and load capacity is around 250 kg. I guess you will have to make the top and possibly the stand yourself.

I agree with Mojo re his turntables - they're good and quite a few of our members are using them. Maybe a picture would help to appreciate the difference better.
I'm using three different ones - the cheap $2.00 ones, one of his and the expensive Japanese ones. They all have their purpose!

You should ask them about the load capacity too. Chinese eating places have such turn tables; these do not feel very sturdy to me.

Carbatec also have little sharpen stones that are not too expensive and are suitable for sharpening bonsai cutting tools. They also have nagura bars, I got one for about $4.00 or so. They also have a variety of little Japanese saws, I bought a key hole saw for $35.00 a while back (these saws cut on the pull rather than the push.)

Mojo are you able to tell me the size and cost of the turntables you have?

And Rudi can you describe the "expensive Japanese" turntable you use. Perhaps, if you could post some photos that would help as well.
I am in the process (it's been a long slow process due to lack of enthusiasm and heat in my shed), of making a large turntable (thanks to Paul at the Bonsai Workshop for his inspiration) for a few of my larger trees, out of a discarded office chair (from the council verge rubbish collection), some wooden cross members and thick plywood. If Paul has his at our next meeting, I will take a photo, if he doesn't mind, otherwise I will show you my effort when it is done.

Hi Mashby, my turntables are 365mm diameter and 20mm thick, they are made from steel plate covered with non slip vinyl/rubber top and bottom. A steel spindle in the centre and a series of ball bearings out towards the rim of the turntable allow them to handle the weight of large trees. I've been using mine for almost 4 years now, in all sorts of weather, all it has ever needed has been the occasional squirt of WD40 on the bearings.
