Camellia back-budding

Post by GavinG »

If I want to get good back-budding on my camellia sasanqua, would I prune it back to two leaves now, in March, or in April? I'm in Canberra, so growth slows quite early.

Thanks for your ideas.

Gavin

Hi Gavin, i cut mine back about 3 weeks ago and now have good backbudding. Not sure in your part of the country though.

Hi Gavin if you want to be really safe do it when they are in or just after flowering, camellia shoot back very easily from old wood so you don't need to worry about leaving any foliage.
