I wonder if these are similar in growth behaviour to Japanese black pines, which i believe excrete an acid like substance,disolving the rock, which enables them to get a firm grip/hold on the rocks where they live without searching for soil.

Hi kidsandall,

I believe it is an Angophora costata, not a Corymbia maculata as suggested in the file name. Nice tree though. There are similarly impressive ones around here too, including one that has grafted two crossing branches together.
