Group of Benjamin figs

Post by AndrewC »

Hi all,
I thought I'd start sharing progress with this group which I assembled late last year. The largest tree was rescued from a friend's back yard, where it was pot-bound and in a poor state. It's crown was never well balanced and instead of waiting for new branches to develop and fill it out, I decided once it was healthy to set it in with some smaller trees. I like the idea of group plantings with trees of very different sizes, which tell the story of a mature tree spreading seed around itself. That's what i have in mind, anyway :)

I like the scene.

A little moss on the right hand side of the planting would add to the picture.

Good work.

Great start Andrew but I feel it needs some more trees of a size in between the largest tree and the smaller ones. Also I think there is a bit too much negative space which could be filled with at least 3 more trees :2c:

Thanks Tony, I agree. At this stage I am planning to let the second-right tree grow into the middle-size class you suggested, the other three small ones will increment too, and then in about a year transplant some new smaller ones into the negative space you mentioned.

Thanks all for your encouragement.

cheers, Andrew.
