Hi everyone,
I bought a Juniper stock plant and just had my first go at basic styling, i managed to clean the tree up quite a bit however as this is my first attempt at styling a stock plant id just like to ask a little bit of advice on what areas i should keep and what areas i should chop.
Thanks,
Michael

Re: Help with Juniper
Hi Michael,
I think there may be some potetnial in your tree. As the moment I see a snakey trunk with too many bends which make the tree look unnatural and contrived.
I think what I would do, and I am speaking as a relative newcomer to bonsai, is maybe try and think about how you could designi a smaller tree that may eliminate the distracting bends. look at the first half of the tree and see if you can come up with something. Look at lots of pictures of Junipers and design principles. I think you will find that you might have more ideas. don't be afraid to take this tree to a workshop/club of some sort before you do anything radical. However, if it was me, I would chop most of the tree just above where the second bend ends. i have attached a quick and dirty vertical. you could even use certain methods to straighten the tree a bit too. search here for bending heavy branches topics etc. n, I am just starting in this art so please take my opinions as such. there are many more knowledgeable people on this site than me. hope this helps and good luck

Re: Help with Juniper
I think this Juni has potential , i wouldn't cut any more foliage off yet. If it were mine i would be using raffia or biketube with heavy gauge wire and bending the trunk to bring alot more twists and bends into it . Most likely repeating the process a few times over a few years to end up with an interesting useable trunk. Best off growing it in the ground or a suitable sized grow on pot, that way the trunk will get a chance to thicken more rapidly.
