junipers and what 2 or 3 years can do

Post by chrisatrocky »

I'm only new at bonsai, less than 6 years all up, and I am amazed the difference a couple of years makes. Here are some of our junipers we have been playing aroud with.
large juniper squamata

another juniper squamata, now comletely turned around and the cascade moved to the side.

alittle sargent juniper

this one is a Cupressus glabra 'Limelight' Tanuki

This one we bought at Kmart before we knew what a bonsai was.

we try to keep a photo record of our trees, we look back on some and say to ourselves, "what were we thinking with that?"

Nice progress. It is a must to keep photographic records. It helps immensely with styling the tree and also lets you know that the tree.DOES change.

Cuwire, up until Sept 2010, the upright/ leader was an horizontal branch opposite the other, forming a flat umbrella top, not very appealing. I wired and twisted it upward to where it is now. Saved this tree from being ousted from our collection. this tree is 20cm tall and 25cm wide

T.H., we fertilize every 4 - 6 weeks with half strength liquid fert, in the growing season (mid Aug to mid March). No fertilizing the rest of the year. We use half strength fert on bonsai junipers so they don't explode with growth. Full strength on the junipers in grow pots. The best thing to keep junipers growing and healthy is, full sun all day, every day.
