Opening of the NBPCA in 2013
Hi all,
It has been officially announced today that the National Arboretum Canberra will be opened in 2013 on Friday the 1st of February. Detailed opening program yet to be announced but from what I know it should be a great day.
The National Arboretum Canberra is the site of the new home for the National Bonsai and Penjing Collection of Australia and we believe that the NBPCA will be opened around mid day on the following day, Saturday February 2nd. This would give interstate visitors and day trippers enough time to come to the Arboretum for the opening of the collection.
I will keep you updated as more information becomes available.
We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible over the next year and then at the opening of the collection in 2013.

excellent news for one and all, what a great opportunity to show off our art to a larger audience and with the calibre of expertise in the selection committee it can only mean trees of very high quality will be on show. Oh happy day!

The only thing that could be better is if I had a tree on display opening day

It's too bad your in such a hurry cause the stories I could tell you, Bushels and baskets of stories, hole crates full of stories. But if you can spare a moment I will tell you one story.

That makes it hard for us, as that is the hot part of the year and watering is needed quite frequently
. So we might give that a miss and try for the convention
.
Congratulations all round on a job well done
.
Cheers Pup

For trip value the 2013 AABC Convention should be really great value if, like yourself, you are coming a long distance.
So i hope to see you then if not at the opening.
The WA trees form a very large part of the permanent collection (6 out of approx 22) and will take pride of place in the new site as well.
The Callistemon has done everything right this year and should flower better than it has ever done here. It did not mind the cool wet weather at all.

Re: Opening of the NBPCA in 2013
Hi Grant,
2013 AABC Convention is definitely on my agenda.
The progress at the arboretum looks fantastic.
Will there be room for the convention within the facilities at the arboretum?
Will the convention be in town and spoil us with an additional display of trees?

Q: Why are we all here?
A: Because we are not all there.

You'll just have to wait and see...Gerard wrote:...Will there be room for the convention within the facilities at the arboretum?

(no offense intended)

Initially there are no hotel/convention type facilities at the Arboretum and so the convention is to be held elsewhere.
As Scott so eloquently stated you will have to wait for the details of the convention to be announced at the melbourne AABC convention in just two months time now.

Hi Grant
can we get an update please. (wow, its only 3 months away)
We are planning to bring a bus load of members, is there somewhere we can congregate for lunch?
or have lunch delivered ( hopefully not during a speech )
what can you recommend for the masses... some times of opening etc would be good.
