My NEW Bonsai Area / Bench / stands!

Post by emi93m »

Just thought i would post some pics of my new bonsai area that is nearly complete :tu: but due to all the rain we are having in Sydney :palm: it took me a lot longer to complete then i estimated. I had a lot of treated pine kicking around the house so over all it wasnt a very exp[ensive project. I am yet to lay pebbles around the area if the rain ever stops. Anyway here are some before and after pics let me know what you guys thing......... Oh and by the way ...does this mean I have the Bonsai Bug :?: :lost:

Looks great mate, I am jealous

One thing I think is worth mentioning is about the stands next to the house. I have read in a number of books, and been told at club meetings that you should avoid storing/displaying/shelving etc near a metal fence, house or window. From what I understand the heat radiated from these in summer are quite bad for the health of the trees when they are already struggling with the heat during our Australian summer. I don't know if in your situation your trees are on a wall that doesn't get direct sunlight, but I hope they only get morning sun where they are. Also they wouldn't get too much airflow being up against a wall/fence. I don't know if that will make much difference though, especially if you keep turning your trees weekly. I'm in Adelaide and we get hot dry summers so it is probably worst here, or somewhere like Perth. But hopefully your summers are not too bad where you are :fc:

Regardless I think you have done an outstanding job constructing them :tu:

Awesome Job    :tu:
looks much nicer than just the plain wall.

Luke, depends on the aspect of the wall / fence and the environment around them
South side of a wall will not get hot, and may well protect from heat or dry winds. They will also stop winter frosts too.
I have most of my trees next to Steel fence, but as they are near the ground and only get Arvo sun, they are quite well protected. In winter the Fence helps them stay warmer too. As a result I get not a lot of autumn colour, but on the other hand my bougies and figs grow year round :-)

Great job, i like what you've done. That corner of the yard certainly looks better especially once the pebbles go in.
Plenty of yard for expansion as well!! ;)
