Murraya

I went looking at bonsai a few weeks ago and just when i was about to go i spotted this mock orange and after a couple of attemps to leave without it i gave in. It does has a long way to go but this is the tree which i see within it and there are a few problems to sort out as well. Not sure if the tail is needed but i thought i would see how it looked with it, i will let a branch grow for it as i have read these can be slow growers.

Love the aged trunk and the roots. I do think Murraya are an under utilised bonsai subject.

As I have a large one, I concur they are real nice. Mine is just finishing flowering now.
Magzy the trunk on this is real nice

This has great potential

My suggestion would be to get rid of the low hanging jin and replace it with a live branch. Wire a shoot down to fill the gap. But whatever you do it will be a nice tree.

I agree Murraya are under used as bonsai. Maybe this thread will start a new movement in Murraya growing.

Indeed a beautiful trunk pot rock combination, I would be very happy to have it on my bench. Your virtual will work nicely once you can get a strong branch going for it. Murraya can be slow to thicken but if heavily fed & watered they ramify easily. The deadwood is long lasting so jin & shari are often seen on penjing murraya and needs no protection other than being kept away from moisture(soil line or pooling).

Thanks again for comments. I agree with you Bodhi and i believe that jin is a problem, i have already nibbled away some of it when i first got the tree. Will keep for now but it will go at sometime i think. Thanks for your info on them MattA i will most likely use lime on any deadwood.
