Hi Guys , its a ripper in the making . A couple of members have had a sneak peak at the work in progress . Its was an aerated reinforced concrete slab around 35kg, its going on a crash /bash/hack and chop Alpineart diet to loose 25 kg or more then a bit of refinement and we shall have finished Penjing in 5 days using rubbish , that includes the 14yo twisty sticks in pots . I will put 2 other sticks in pot taken as cutting from the originals into the finished work .
SANY0264.JPG
this is one of the roots i was going to use for an upright Phoenix graft i has now become a natural flying dragon with a little bit of carving
SANY0288.JPG
the pot in the design stage . Best get out there and rip into it

Using an angle grinder with a saw blade fitted and yes the guard can clearly be seen
SANY0272.JPG
.I carved the grooves for the phoenix grafts ,
SANY0271.JPG
then finished off with a router and cutter
SANY0273.JPG
I drilled out the right hand root to balance with the left hand side which will represent the wings
SANY0276.JPG
. This progression is not real time , i have already spent 3 days working on these pieces however the whole topic can't be loaded as my boat anchor times out so its slow and steady .

Attaching the junipers was not easy as the old trunks don't play ball due to the age .

Another OH BUGGER moment has happened but it may survive only time will tell
SANY0284.JPG
I need to wipe the smirk off the dragons face , that will happen later , time for some wiring .

Hi teamak , thats it just plugging away .

Hi V.S , mate i use anything that looks good in the foliage department .My preference was Juniperus sabina /Savin Juniper it handles almost anything i throw at it including neglect and forgetful watering . If you like flat line foliage it is one of the best , followed by the Shimpaku which has a natural growth habit resembling cloud like formation pads then it would have to be the Californian Juni's which are in the middle of the of the other 2 mentioned .

Cheers Guys Alpine
