my lilly pilly (weird root problem or not?)

here is one of my first and fav bonsai's i have created. its not what you would call a text book bonsai and probably has some faults (weird root that looks like someones knee havent decided what to do about it yet as i kind of like the character of it) at the moment i do not want to be a text book bonsai artist, i want to create my own ideas and impressions as im only new to bonsai and by no means an expert as my name suggests (grasshopper) but i would appreciate any tips, help, advice anyone has to offer. hope at least some of you like it, i will keep updating pics of it as i go

Hi grasshopper,

I wouldn't worry too much about the root problem you think you have. In my experience you can always lift the bonsai higher in the pot and make the root a feature. As it is you have a nice starter there and it should become a nice ornamental when it flowers and fruits.

Grasshopper, yes that root is a problem, cut it off next time you repot the tree.

thanx for the input both of you but im still left un-decided on wether to keep it and use it as a feature, or wether to cut it off im going to need more peoples opinion before i do anything. like i said i kind of like the character of it, but if it will create any serious health problems for the tree then ill cut it off... its not ment to be any type of specific formal style or anything it more of a ornamental creation with the natural twisting trunk (i didnt wire it that way ) thanks for the link craig very informal and i learned alot from it if i do decide to cut the root
