Some new greenware

Post by MattA »

With the recent firing of some of my work by Penny (MudlarkPottery) it has spurred me to get back into making some pots. These are a couple that I look forward to seeing fired.

Measures are approximate & with firing they will shrink a bit.

Your getting good Matt
Which ones of those are carved out. It seems a few are but surely they are not all carved. I have been making a few again recently and was thinking of trying one like your 8 sided pot. Very nice.
It's too bad your in such a hurry cause the stories I could tell you, Bushels and baskets of stories, hole crates full of stories. But if you can spare a moment I will tell you one story.

Isn't it bad luck to show green pottery prior to firing???

Good luck... :fc:

Greenhorn, I have a bigger block of similar I could use for a cascade pot ;)

Brett, they are all carved from solid blocks, the 3rd one just the inside & bottom to give it feet, the rest carved inside & out. Rectangular pots aren't too hard, its ovals that give me the *&$*&&$ & lets not even start on drum pots. Look forward to seeing your new work, 8 sides is easy, 5 & 7 is lots of fun :D

Scott, by the time I get round to firing these the kiln gods will (hopefully) have forgotten my transgressions :fc:

Craig, OK...

Kiln gods never forget, and have transgressions of their own you can't even imagine... A wood-fired kiln I built had asthma between 1050degC and 1150degC, not higher or lower. Mad damn thing.

Hope you always put a small vase of gathered flowers on top of the kiln when it fires. It doesn't make the kiln gods any nicer, you just get the illusion that you're co-operating.

Best of luck.

Gavin, Expect your brains to be picked when we meet up, I would eventually like to get a woodfired kiln set up here... The pyro in me likes the idea of feeding a fire for hours on end :tu:

A little oval to show I can manage them when i put my mind to it.

Thanks Pat, I look forward to showing the final pieces come what may, couple of shockers from the last lot, major warpage. :palm:
I am enjoying mixing it up & we shall see.. If nothing else I will learn a bit more from it.
