My new olive

Hi i joined a Albury-Wondonga Bonsai club, and the first topic was on olive.I got this olive off Alpineart and took it along for some ideas at the meeting

Henk gave a discussion on olive's,on styling ,growing and collecting . I ask about a hollow trunk.
I asked alpine if he could help,yesterday we drilled holes to the base all around were the old trunk was removed.Alpine broke my bottom branch off rough bugger.

I want to keep it as a bulb i don't want a flat cut trunk'
it's a 14cm wide base and it needs more caving but i'm off to football .Our next meeting is on conifers hope Alpine has one i can have , maybe one of his big monster one's Thanks sonic976

Very little olive you have your hand's on there, but I'd keep Alpine well away from it & just get him to point at it with along stick & you do the work or before you no it you'll have not branch's left on it , Also when using power tool's make sure everything is clean & tidy around you & you have eye & ear protection

very nice taper on that trunk... with the carvings i would try any make it look more natural.. they look a bit like drills holes at the moment. check out graham potter's videos on youtube. He usually adds a lot of veins and details into the deadwood.

Hi Sonic976 , sorry about the branch but shari happens even to the best of us . I did say hang on tight . Good to see you back into Bonsai and joining the A-W Bonsai Club .You will learn plenty over there , not too many of my bad habits used in the club .

you don't add live veins to trunks do you? I thought you found which part was still living and painted the surrounding deadwood.

Alpine - I don't think that bottom branch was needed as it was taking the curve out of it. You shouldn't have a branch on the inside of a curve. (Just trying to cover up for you mate!)

Alpineart removed a lot of trunks that's were I drilled the trunk Thanks sonic976
