Re: European Hornbeam
A great magnificient hornbeam Leigh. It is intresting with the fat branch that would be called a trunk if it started a bit lower. The tree would just not work at this size without it. If I was working on it I would encourage the lower branches I can see to thicken and also work at the roots. Maybe a ground layer or grafting would be on the plan to improve the roots.
I am starting to think that an established tree would be apropriate for my 40th which is about a year and a half away. This one would go on the possible list. Did the thieves get this one I don't think I saw it there the other day.
I stated I was suprised that your eroupean hornbeams leaves don't look like mine here is what mine look like.

They are fatter but more tender looking than yours.

Re: European Hornbeam
Hey you better leave the hornbeams for us southerners they would not like it up there. If they did I would have joined you up there by now.

Re: European Hornbeam
Very nice leigh.
For me I think the left trunk needs a slight shorten and the top canopy growing out to fill the void slightly. a slight "Negative space" to define each area more would be nice
