Olive in honour of Wyatt

Post by Andrew Legg »

Hey Wyatt,

You know that feeling when you find something that just makes your day out there in the bush. It's a tree that just speaks to you. Not something that comes along every day, and you say to the guys you are with - "I just have to have this tree!". Then they look at you like this:  or like this :o or like this :lost: or even like this  , but then every now and then you get three good guys who when bribed with a case of beer each look at you like this :tu: so you go like this :worship: and then the four of you get to work for three hours, after which two of them fetch a truck and drive it places it ain't been driven before. This is the result . . . . . . ;)

Chainsaws are coming out tomorrow to cut the base and then I'll get some new photos up here then.

Some more that came out were:

That Dremel bit - you sure it is not a die grinder bit? Looks more like a die grinder bit to me. I think you have it wrong Velvet.

Spent 4 hours and three chainsaw chains, and we did all the olives from the dig. Some fantastic material! :tu:

Mine is now flat cut (flat is debatable) and ready to be potted up in a nice large plastic bucket which I'll have to buy tomorrow. Here's a photo of what I feel may be the final planting angle. This is how the tree was growing in the wild, and it is the vision I saw that grabbed me. I'll be able to get a few more photos once I get it home (it's still at a mate's house), but for now this is it. I think the bottom two branches work so well reaching out and round, and the upper of the two is behind the lower giving fantastic depth. I'd love to hear your comments about the angle and how you guys and gals might use the branches.

Cheers,

Andrew

Do you have a rough estimate as to how old the tree is???

Be interesting to see where you go with it.

That was an epic day.

Getting home with our trees brought yet wider eyes and deep sighs of semi-resignation from our respective wives...
As they say "Behind every successful man is a woman rolling her eyes."

Mine trees are all having along soak before the pot-up this weekend, after which I will post a couple of image updates.
