Hi Anttal63 , if i improve my wiring people won't have much to pick on , except my methods . Can't be too professional , thats for the guru's , i'm still a hacker and chopper ;) My trainers are usually for my eye's only however all my tree's are trainers so thats buggered me for posts if i have to do a topic . I'm not shy when i come to being rough and ready , the results are good and thats good enough . I can here the heads scratching and rattling over these wire jobs , but i don't give a bugger . "Every faults a feature" and my wiring feature has every fault , not looking for browny points for wiring , i failed that years ago . I was pulled up not long ago , but it was explained we don't show wired tree's so this is not a show but a progression :lost: . I don't use bonsai wire either so that's buggered me again  or bonsai soil  .See all my faults are features

Cheers Rough and ready Alpine

Hi alpine,

Refined wiring teqnique or not this tree is looking awesome. I know you claim to have a lot of trainers and no bonsai but isnt every bonsai really a trainer? I thought you continued to train bonsai forever? You should not be so modest as your trees and your knowledge are truely authentic and learnt from your own mistakes and triumphs just like it should be.

Can I also say you must have a sh#t load of trees as you seem to always be posting something interesting and new. How is that trident of yours going that was a heap of seedlings fused together? I am interested to know as I want to try a bunch of mels using the same technique.

cheers

Hi Squizzy , thanks for the feedback . I couldn't wire this tree as per the expected method as the new shoots dislodge very easy and i don't have the correct wire .It would have the be "pinch and grow" trained . I only have few developed Bonsai and i purchased one of them from Matthew. I don't make mistakes as such , that's negativity and way too harsh , i learn a heck of a lot of lessons by pushing tree's and my methods beyond normal expectations . If some-one can learn from that , then i have achieved success whether i killed the tree , snapped a trunk , used electrical coated wire , tried dozens of different mediums other than true specific bonsai blends , made pots and trays , used sand trays fro growing pine , multi layered single trunks , etc , etc .

No mistake here , all valuable lessons above and beyond written material and methods . .If one was to make a mistake one wouldn't try again .The definition of insanity is doing the same over again expecting a different result , i vary each test to obtain a good result and if i get it right after constant testing then that's a good thing if not i try another subtle change . Some things i give up on but that's not a failure , there is plenty i did learn .Things i do don't have to meet approval from anyone , i will continue to do as i do as i get results which is what testing and trialing is all about . My time here at Ausbonsai is my learning of the Masters Methods by those who practice it , but i'm way too casual to have a perfect trainer . I'm not a Guru , not a Master nor profess to be one .

One of the fusing tridents was eaten by some pest , not looked after during my recovery from the accident . Most material here has suffered of died including my big pines and Maple .Another lesson learned , don't shatter your leg and expect your tree's to look after themselves .There is a couple in the grow beds that look O.K but i won't know until they drop their leaves and check out the fusing trunk . I had about 2000 plus plants or should i say a did have , possibly 1500 left , no need to collect any more but no doubt i will see a tree that needs rescuing from an excavator , a burn off or just because i can .

Cheers Alpine

Nice project you have there Ian. I also like the way you approach bonsai ignoring negative comments from other people.

Since there are so many variables in Bonsai including the artist themselves, there would never be just one way to do anything.
Whatever works :tu:

Alpine there are a couple of things that could hinder this as an entry. Work is not meant to start until after the tree is submitted and also Soliciting and/or receiving advice from others will be cause for disqualification.

The guys running the show seem very understanding so if you are keen it might be worth contacting them.

Hi Brian , it is progressing nicely , not quite to the rules but "hey" . I disregard negative thoughts , actions and words and replace them with inspiration , motivation and positive actions, most of the time . Not perfect but i don't want to be , haven't come a cross a perfect human yet .I'm as good as i can be , better than i used to be , in the biggest room in the world , "The room for improvement" .

Hi Bretts , i think the material has to be under 12 months old in training for The new stock category , as in work done on the tree for 1of the categoreis of the Native Comp 2012 .This was a garden tree in September 2011 . I think your reference is to the Shohin Comp , but i will stand corrected if i'm wrong . I'm certainly not soliciting advice ,i have a plan regardless of who says what and when , as i always do .

I study all my tree's , trunks and stick in pots for their best potential ,i see the faults long before i post them , crikey i've been told many a time to cut it down to a shohin . I haven't cut any tree down on advice from another person based on a photo , nor do i critique a tree as this is bloody near impossible from a photo .

Oh I see the problem we are talking about different Comps
I was talking about the Of Bonsai comp as previously stated ;)

I now see that the closing or progression for the Of Bonsai comp is in our Spring which would leave no time to develop the Lilly Pilly. Yours might have had a chance but I don't think I will be cutting mine back that hard and expect a good new flush of growth over Winter :(

Back to the benches :lost:

Had lunch at my dad's place today and he tells me he planning to get rid of 2 Lillypilly's in his garden. Both are over 3 metres tall with trunks in the 300mm range. Thanks to this thread I'm going to have a go at doing something with them, nothing to loose as he was going to chop and poison them. Massive waste if he does that...

Hi Bretts , mate i only have time for one Forum and a blog ,too many other commitments , can't spread myself too thin or there wouldn't e enough time to post and reply , along with P.M's its a full time hobby , then i have to look after the plants as best i can .

Hi Ray , mate take every opportunity to save a plant from total destruction . This one had new roots appearing on the big cut roots .Tell the old man you will remove them over time , cut back hard then let them settle , then dig . With 300mm bases i hope your a fit chap . Best of luck with them .

Cheers guys Alpine

Tree looks amazing..
Have really appreciated the journey this thread has taken me on!

P.S. - Loving the wiring! LOL!
One of the fabulous things about growing bonsai is as you get old and decrepit your trees get old and beautiful
