Callistemon of some type at least.
I first thought they would be mine but there is something unusual about the way they are cut. Branches have been cut off even secondary trunks have been cut very low, almost neatly. They are definitely in the way of the foot path unless it veers of some and there seems little room for that so I doubt they have just been trimmed to enable more access to the work.
Could they be planning to replant them, doesn't seem like the usual thing for a council to do. Much safer just to plant fresh trees. Maybe they have left a trunk so the digger has something to push on

I will hopefully have a chat with the workers tomorrow morning and see what is going on.
It's too bad your in such a hurry cause the stories I could tell you, Bushels and baskets of stories, hole crates full of stories. But if you can spare a moment I will tell you one story.
