roka wrote:Good job so far man.At this rate they are going to look like twins in no time, :?: In regards to the bend did you drill? cut wedge, or just plain force, to get it like that.

:gday: Roka, remember my tree faces left and Crivelli's tree faces right ;) ,

I had previously extended the shari up higher, the cambium was healing the cut edge very nicely. I could not have bent this trunk with without splitting the trunk and removing some deadwood from certain areas, the whole process took some time and alot of thinking , at first i was considering other options as i didn't think it was going to happen.

Wow Craig love all the gadgetry to help the bends - wonder where the copper pipe comes from ? Great result - were there any cracking noises while bending ?

Pup wrote:G,day Craig I like what you have decided to do and wish you well, as I have and so have many others all trees can be improved.

There is one problem though, your tree is a Juniper chinensis x media Blauww, a Blauwws juniper.

Cheers Pup
Blaauw is now considered to be pure Juniperus chinensis therefore I believe it should (and I do) call it a Shimpaku.
The green slower growing Shimpaku we are all familiar with is possibly 'Kishu'. If you don't mind the bluish colour, I think it is superior to Kishu for larger sizes as its easier to get finer braching, grows 2-3 times faster, thickens well compared to the green which you will need to wait till your on your death bed before you see a diameter of a couple of inches.
Mind you there are also some good medias around as well 'Lemon Hill' is one. Grow em all!
Craig, I like were your going with this tree.

Cheers T.

looks like your having heaps of fun Craig. The tree is looking great. It will be a process adding the live vein look to the top of the tree.

thanks Bohidarma and Ken

This is how the juniper looks today. It has been moved to a different pot and the planting angle changed . The top section has been compressed a little further and branches positioned ,

It's too bad your in such a hurry cause the stories I could tell you, Bushels and baskets of stories, hole crates full of stories. But if you can spare a moment I will tell you one story.

Wow Craig, it has been an amazing and rather rapid transformation thus far, and it looks a real treat!
The March 5th pics were great, but now with the tweak up top and the angle change, it is even better!
Craig wrote:Much appreciated Tony and Treeman, still alot to do but not for 6 to 12 mths now,
...more like two months
But seriously, how long do you think it will take untill you take away the copper pipe helping to facilitate the bend in the trunk?
Cheers, Dario.
