Choking bonsai!

Post by billa »

Heya Gang,

I recently learned of a new method for quickly creating bigger & thicker trunks...by means of violent strange hold. :o

Has anyone ever used a piece of wire to thicken a trunk by tightly wrapping it around the base? This apparently causes major swell of the trunk quite rapidly and the wire eventually gets engulfed under the swell where it cannot be noticed.

Most if not all growers love a thick trunk. Has anyone tried this this technique? I know there are probably a few risks involved but would love some feed back before I sacrifice one of my trees :P

If this has already been discussed, forgive me and please provide the link!

i have heard of it from someone who used it on pines and let the wire be swallowed up, just like you discovered.. i have not tried it on my little white pines though, maybe this wire( choking) method is very common practice, :lost:

It is not practised that much, as a trunk thickening exercise, but in Europe and some of the wholesale nursery there us it to get more aged looking bark.

By wiring tight then let it cut in rip it off go the other way and it gives that aged APPARENCE.

Not recomended
