My wife and my one year old daughter are away for the weekend so I thought I'd go on a dig. So I loaded the tiny with tools and plenty of water and headed up the Bremmer River. Its not the right time of year for it but it's worth a try. Hackberry's are very forgiving as well. Two years ago I snapped the top of this tree off and cut all the branches back.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers !
I'm planning on leaving all the trunks on until the tree rejuvenates. Then I will select which one or two I'll keep. I figure there is stored energy in the trunks. Considering it's early winter and not the ideal time to dig I feel I shouldn't do any large cuts just yet. That's just my theory, time will tell.Bremer River dig

Re: Bremer River dig
Nice score and at the right price
I have seen some celtis around while at work - how hardy are they to collect ? Is it likely to survive with what appears to be very little root ?

Regards Tony

Re: Bremer River dig
All the celtis i've collected have had about this much root mass and have all survived. Though they were all collected late winter/early spring as the buds swell. I'm curious to see how this one goes.
