Recently bought this juniper off a private seller, want told the species and given the rough age of five years. Anyone able to shed a bit more light on it?
any advice at all is also welcome! did notice some small brown parts spread over the plant

Your first post, welcome.
I think its a juniper squamata and not too bad. A few years and a bit of work and you will have a fine shohin bonsai. If I could suggest - find yourself a bonsai club. There you will find many good people willing to help.
For now, I suggest that you enjoy the tree as it is and then when it starts to grow in the spring the tree will tell you where it wants to go and you can then just help it along.
