New and Stupid - Nagaski Crabapple & Winter Jasmine

Post by wiggs »

Hi all,

Very first post, and new to the sight and bonsai, so please don't shout down my stupidty too much on any questions.

Have a few bonsai's and really enjoying getting into them, and the more I research, here on the net and bonsai nurseries I get more excitable and keen, which is great, so any way after my long winded intro, my question is:

Can you get Winter Jasmine and/or Nagasaki Crabapple in Australia?

I have a normal crab apple as in Malus Floribuna, and a Cherry Blossom, already, but I also like the others mentioned above, from what I have read and seen?

Thanks
Wiggs

Hey Wiggs,

Welcome to the site & to bonsai, be careful as it often becomes obsessive & is only surable by adding more trees & pots to your collection regularly

I have winter jasmine growing, it is only semi deciduous in my climate but still a joy in the dull months. Not sure about nagasaki crab apple but am sure with a bit of sleuthing you should be able to track one down.

Hi Wiggs
Welcome to Ausbonsai, you aint the only one that asks stupid questions I do it all the time and usually some patient bugger answers mine, so go for it.
I would either go out or ring Ray Nesci at Dural one of the most knowledgeable blokes around as far as plants go,he is at Sagars Rd Dural, keep going down the road he is on the lefthand side you cannot miss it. GOOD Luck

Yeah I was there 2 weeks ago, and got a juniper, Pyracanthia Flowering Cherry, but to be honest, wasn't looking at all for Winter Jasmine he very well could of had one, I just wasn't looking for that at the time.

Regarding the Crab Apple, I couldn't see that type when I was there, but again I probably should have asked at the time :palm:

Might journey out there again soon, think the Mrs wants to go there and get a starter to try her hand too.

Please anyone else with thoughts or suggestions let me know.
