this tree has changed so much and every time it is stunning. The design now is very dramatic and has great directional flow from the dead wood to the live branch, they contrast very well. cant wait to see this tree in the future

Hey Speci Thanks mate, there are 3 trees entwined together. I purchased the tree in 2006, it was 7 yrs old then. So 12 yrs in training all up.

G'day Antonio, I hadn't seen this thread before today and after reading back through it (which i enjoyed by the way) ,i noticed the tree has had several "ideal" looks about it as you progressed along. The after "Hiro' look was for my thinking absolutely on the money, I loved it.
So then when I reached the current post again the tree kept me looking again and again. I found myself thinking about your tree for a while , how the small live part was twisting off from the Dead main tree,all the deadwood above it and the tree as a whole.
It reminds me very much of some Great Junipers I have seen pictures of which incorporate this type of jinned branching to great effect, tall and seemingly out of place and proportion. I found myself beginning to admire it and wanting to see it. It lured me in and I let it.Great work even if it was not planned mate, good luck from here

Mate i never planned it but many times in the last few years i have looked at it and thought what a cracker shohin in 1st branch. This obsession to want large instant bonsai sure did get in the way i now see things so clearly.

That is great observation Craig !!! Any one that comes to my garden stops in awe for this one, i still stop every day for it but i had never quite broke it down in that way and has certainly given me a new perspective on this baby. This reinforces Dan Robinson's theory for the need of deadwood. For some years now i have been talking about the need to grow your Junipers and style for the future deadwood, not just the foliage. This tree has without doubt taught me and made me the bonsaist i am till the present time. I now grow all my junis with future deadwood design options. I just wish i was 20 again ... errr maybe maybe not Thanks again Craig!

Hack wow im honoured and humbled, thats huge for me, coming from you. Thankyou for your vote of confidence i will continue to push my envelope always. I do have something in the pipes that is going to be spectacular if i pull it off. We are healing our battle wounds from the dig and patiently waiting for the right time to do the first lot of work. maybe next year

For some years now i have been talking about the need to grow your Junipers and style for the future deadwood, not just the foliage.!

I feel that where the jinned branching is going to be a feature on any tree then the branches should be grown as branches first and then jinned . To get the jinned branch looking like it "fits" in , first it needs to be a branch.

In this particular case i was not as brave as i was negligent Thanks Kevn glad you like it ! Yes maybe less will be better in future ???

New mix this year finer and tighter, nothing over 3-4mm 50% succulent mix, 25% pumice, 25% diatamite fine and couple of handfuls of zeolite.
