No that is not the one I was referring to but is again similar.

I believe this one was given to the President of the USA to give as a gift , to a visiting dignitary.

Rest assured it will be thriving, as they were Japanese not sure what their rank was so that is why I said dignitaries.

Ernie was delighted to have it passed on to them.

Ah, I didn't know that they were Japanese dignitaries. Different story then, they will have some appreciation and respect for such a gift. :fc:

Jow wrote:I like the tree and i like the pot, but i dont like them together. The old image of this tree would have worked with this pot and all its foliage but now it has been reduced i think you also need to reduce the size of the pot aswell.

I tried a quick (bad) vert withthe pot shrunk down to see how it looked.

Maybe not perfect but i think that the smaller pot works a little better than the current one. Perhaps a different shape? Tapered sides? Its a shame because that pot is really nice! I am sure i coudl find it a home if you no longer needed it ;)

Jow thanks for that yes i have been thinking that all day while i was at work. Less foliage and dark live veins have made a big differance to the weight of the tree in the pot. I didnt even see it coming. It obviously needs a smaller and simpler pot, clean lines. i do picture a round with tapering sides, No prob this pot is a classic and is only a matter of time before the right tree comes along ;) other wise ill grow one for it

Pup wrote:Hello Anttal, I have been looking at this tree, it does have a lot going for it, but has as has been pointed out a few problems.

In Bonsai today no 60 pages 41/42, there is an article on a California juniper by Ernie Kuo.

It is very similar note similar to your tree, he has it in a Square pot as suggested by Hackimoto.
It looks very balanced and matches nicely also the colour is a grey.

Hope this helps, I am sure Bonsai North West would have a copy in there library.

Cheers Pup
Hello pup thanks for your input i will be on the look out for it or if anyone chimes in here that has it please post it up. I have a beautiful square pot here that might work too. :tu2:

Hi Anttal and Hackimoto, due to the fact that Bonsai Today is no longer printed, and Ernie Kuo no longer participates in the wider Bonsai Community.

I thought that doing what I am will not hurt anybody sensibilities.

So here are the pics from the magazine, of the tree I have been talking about.

Cheers Pup

My, My that tree is so similar to the one that I posted earlier. It's interesting that the later pictures feature a blue/ green glazed pot. Thought to be a bit of a no-no in potting conifers :lost: Cant say it works for me as it's the first distraction that hit my eye. To each his own. Reposted this one for quick comparison. Just had another look, maybe they are not blue/green pots, just colour distortion in the pic. :lost:
