My Greatest challenge ever

Alpine, any time your ready to swap one of those mediocre juni's for a magnificent Melaleuca lateritia with a 300mm trunk let me know, great work mate.

Hi Craig , mate i would seriously consider a swap on a new left leg that works . I certainly won't be able to shove these around in the future , as for the others well i have had some very good offers of the folding kind but i want to play with them first .No doubt there will be major interest in these as Trainers .. The biggest worry is a hot dry summer and radiant heat , although they grew very well with a dual carriage way either side of them the heat here is very severe .

Hi Rintar , my wife stood awestruck in the driveway when she arrived home from work last night . I look forward to doing a couple more very soon then i have to find a few more big training pots to place them into .Big idea's turn into big plans , then hopefully big works of art .

Well , Mr Bougy Fan , as a man of leisure i found some spare time ,

. I did see a tree and a lot of wasted material but another trunk was in there as well , so it was out with the saw

and a quick hack and a cut

now i have an extra tree .

This little mother will have some Shimpaku inarch grafted onto the trunk to become a shimp with attitude and a 150mm base .

The main trunk will become something a little bit different possible a huge informal upright

Might see something different tomorrow .It would have been a waste to carve all this up as dead wood so splitting was the best option .Now due to a tumble down the steps today , i will have to take a day off from the leisurely life i have .

Hi Barry1, mate i like a challenge when it come to this Bonsai Caper . The bigger the better for now , get older no wiser though . One day i will have to convert to Shohin or things smaller than this .

How long would you say they are "in care" before any work is done to them?

Hi The Specimen , mate they need to recover and grow on for a few seasons . I don't mind as i have plenty of layers to play with . I have ripped into the small trunk already . Just cant help myself when the challenge is there . Seriously they can stay in these pots and have some hook and hold wires attached just to locate the branches in a more desirable position . It would be nice to get them all in pots by the middle of next month .

This one was a real struggle , its most likely one of the bigger bases at 320 mm x 220 mm,

only just managed to trim it back enough to fit into the pot . I can see 2 nice tree's in this one .

Don't be too quick to divide them Alpine. Two nice trees is no substitute for one fantastic one! Well done on these so far - they are looking very promising!

Speak of the devil , Hi Webos mate its dirty and wet , probably some shadow there as well . Bright and sunny today made for a treat with a few trunks done . I did promise not to get the saw out ,, just yet .

Haha, I'm here keeping an eye on ya! Wasn't a grilling...it was a heartfelt plea. Yes, beautiful day down here... I spent the day pulling a carburettor apart then trying to work out where all of the bits belong. Fun!

Hi Webos , mate don't you follow the rule its called a manual . I need them when i put motors together , i can pull anything apart just can't remember how they go back together . This big trunk is almost 1.5m wide its a bloody big tree .
