Just like to post up my latest tree.

Said to be over 20 years old but no real date was given.

It is in need of repot so that will be the first step with this tree. Its ready for a bonsai pot in my mind so ideas are welcome and exact suggestions desired. As in potters that could make one to suit. The photos dont do this tree justice so I hope the guys who saw it on sunday can vouch for me when i say this tree is amazing I am a bit biased.

Due to how deep the tree sits in the pot i cant get a real photo of the whle tree so it will make it hard to get ideas about the pot. My thoughts are a feminine pot suited to a literati but please throw ideas out there.

After seeing this tree on Sunday the only I can say is I love it, the trunk is awesome and I think finding a pot is always tricky, as this tree displays a very rugged trunk, I'm thinking maybe a distressed drum like pot...
Very much looking forward to the progress on this one, keep us posted

yes a very nice little tree indeed it is jezz. i see a hand built rugged but soft. uneven and irregular, yet circular, distorting to almost oval to one side (the leaning side) . not too thick on the rim. chocolate, smokey charcoal and cinnamon tones. maybe 35 to 45 mm in height. width to be 2/3 of the final lateral spread of canopy. hope this helps.

I pretty much agree though Jezz. Definately a feminine, round, earthy coloured pot. You can't beat browns for conifers and the like IMO.

That's a great little tree! So much more character in that trunk than the staked Juniper stock that we usually see. I wouldn't doubt that the stated age is correct.

Can't wait to see it trimmed up and placed into a real pot. Given the colours that the tree presents, I'd be tempted to go with a muted terracotta hue for the pot.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the replies. One needs to be lucky to find a tree like this. Right place right time. This was at one of the reputable bonsai nurseries that Ant was at the week before yet some how didn't see. So you really do need to keep checking all your normal places because sometimes things get put up for sale at any time.

Well about the pot, I agree totally with all that has been said so I will start to look.

Yeah, That will come in time, first step is to get it into a pot of the right size.

Well I have set aside some time for this tree tonight even though I should really be working

I know the crown is a bit full, but i will deal with that next year. Plus it doesnt look as bad in real life.

What do you think? look ok?

Now i need real help with a pot. So get inspired guys and give me a hand.

Also looking to the potters here to offer some help and you may just get a sale...

It will be about a 6" round pot and about 1.5 - 2 inches deep.


Future plans are to run a shari around the trunk and to clean upthe existing jins.

good work jezz, yeah they can look like plucked chickens in photo and im sure its great in life. this should fill out nicely this year, especially once it gets a good mix of soil + lots of water and feed. enjoy it pal its a rippa. ps i really like this front after the clean up.

Coming along very nicely, the only thing I would suggest is maybe create some more movement on the right side branches to resemble the trunk and other branches, otherwise very nice.

Personally I would go with one of those broken spherical pots (not sure of the name) or even one of those pots like in the DIY Fondue Pot thread..

Or even something like this




You want to work the pot into the nice twist of the trunk..
