Virts, Ideas, Direction. Privet

Post by Gareth »

Hi Guys,

Had a few posts regarding this one, and i have decided to have a go at thread grafting so essentially i can put branches wherever i want them, i have confrimed that all sides of the tree are infact alive, which was the subject of one of my other threads regarding this tree with no branching on the "back" side, which you will see below in the pictures.

SO.....

im looking for opinions on which front to choose, branch placement, virtuals.

And the pictures

The current Back of the tree, as you can see, no branches, but easily rectified with thread grafts

Left hand side, not bad movement, could maybe be a possible front

Slightly left of the front of the tree, pretty straight and boring
DSC01774 (800x600).jpg
the current Front of the tree, got an alright curve to it

And a few more angles of rotation

Now i know there are some taper issues in the middle section of the trunk being the same thickness, this can be easily rectified with some carving after i get the branches in place, so please include in your virts where you would carve.

The base also leaves a little to be desired, but this will come after i get the top developed, anyone know how root grafts go on privet?

Anyway, im going to work on a few sketches as well and upload those as well later on, but im looking for some opinions, im too confused with multiple options for fronts at the moment, and thread grafts and branch placement etc. and ive run out of Whiskey.

If you are going to thread graft, why not add some low down as Sacrifice branches to help fix the taper problem?
Graft a few down the bottom section of trunk and after the take then let them grow wild for a year or 2 to thicken it?
