Cheers bud, So far I haven't really done much as far as styling goes, just following the growth. I have had 2 trunks snapped off, 1 by my new dog & the other by a neighborhood cat :palm: Both were potted up as the bases had some interesting movement in them.

I will be getting up there at some stage this year just don't know when.

I need to spend a bit of time thinning a few more shoots but otherwise happy with how its coming along. A new shoot on the base has been left on the top front right side with the idea of growing a central tree to bring the 3 parts together.

I like the way the stump blends so well with the shapes of the rocks. Bonsai-Rule-Brain says that the two trunks on the right are Wrong, but in fact the foliage mass balances the stump mass. I don't really understand why it works, but it does, very well. If I (mentally) change anything (get rid of one of the right trunks, bring the foliage mass down, spread it more evenly, or fill it in) it loses that flying balance. Just what I think.

Thanks for posting,

Gavin

Matty,

Do you think the smaller trunks have any bend in them??? i just love the direction of the taller ones, do you think it would look alrite if all the trunks lent in the same direction????

Hey Gavin, somehow missed your post at the time. For me, it not only breaks many bonsai rules but also the common view of how figs look in the wild..

Cheers Hornet, heres something for you to ponder ;) 2 virts done by a member on IBC, the conversation can be found here http://ibonsaiclub.forumotion.com/t9498-dryland-ficus.

Andrew,

The only way to bend them would be to wrap first to prevent breakage. I tried with the top off your mame piece... thats why its a mame :palm: Have a look at the virts I just posted from IBC let me know what you think.

At the risk of sounding like a prick LOL im glad that one broke off, its a great little tree :P

Just looked at the IBC thread and this dude nailed it Image

Either way its a one of a kind piece and i think whatever direction you take it will be awesome.

With the miserable weather of the last few days I have taken the opportunity to organise my pc files a bit better. While doing so I came across the pics I took during the last repot (thought they had disappearred into the computer equiv of a blackhole).

I will take a new pic of the tree soon, since the last defoliation leaf size has reduced again, they are now close to the size when collected, around 1-2cm!

A new pot & direction, removal of the large root at front left allowed the angle of the main mass to be changed, the initial movement that provided has been amplified with a few bits of string & selective pruning.
100_6008rz.jpg
It still needs a bit of tweaking & lots of growing but am loving the pot...
